The Relation between the Children¡¯s Playfulness and Self-regulation

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between preschool children¡¯s playfulness and their self-regulation. The subjects of this study were 574 children who are at the age of 4 to 6. We conducted t-test to analyzing the difference between children¡¯s playfulness and their self-regulation. We also chose multiregression and correlation coefficient analysis. Data analysis revealed results as following : Firstly, we found that boy groups have higher physical spontaneity, emotionalism and a sense of humor than girl groups, according to the analysis of children¡¯s playfulness. Secondly, we found that girl groups show higher self-estimation, self-determination and restraint of a behavior than boy groups, according to the result based on children¡¯s self-regulation. Thirdly, we also found that children¡¯s playfulness affects self- regulation of all groups. The results are delineated below: Cognitive spontaneity, social spontaneity, the expression of joy influences on self-estimation. Self-determination is affected by social spontaneity and physical spontaneity; the social spontaneity affects restraint of a behavior. Physical spontaneity, restraint of a behavior and a sense of humor have influences on children¡¯s emotionalism. Fourthly, cognitive spontaneity influences on self-estimation, according to the result of male groups. Social spontaneity affects self-determination. Physical spontaneity and social spontaneity affects restrain of a behavior. Children¡¯s emotionalism is related with social spontaneity and a sense of humor. Finally, this study shows that the restraint of a behavior is related with social spontaneity in girls.
